Patrick Whalen is the founder of the Law Firm, Patrick J. Whalen, Esquire. The Law Firm specializes in a number of diverse areas of the law and Mr. Whalen and his staff are dedicated to thoughtfully and thoroughly serving the needs of their clients.
Patrick has strong, life-long ties to New Jersey, obtaining degrees from Rutgers College (B.A. 1988) and Rutgers School of Law – Newark (J.D. 1993). He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and practices regularly in various Courts throughout New Jersey, including Municipal, State, and Federal Courts. He has handled matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Second Circuit as well.

His legal career began at the prestigious New Jersey law firm, Lowenstein Sandler, where he practiced for over 10 years. In 2006, he opened his own private practice in Trenton, New Jersey, where he has since been providing the highest quality legal services to individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations, throughout the State.

He likes to consider himself “old school”, not relying on heavy marketing or advertising. Instead, his client base has grown based on satisfied clients who return when they need his assistance, and who refer others based on their positive experience.

Patrick is detail-oriented and a highly analytical legal professional with over 30 years of experience in handling a diverse caseload. He has extensive experience in cases involving the practice areas of Personal Injury, Employment Law, Commercial Litigation, Civil Rights, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD), as well as Municipal Court matters. His Law Firm also handles complex, multi-party litigation, and is prepared to go head-to-head, and win, against governmental and large corporate adversaries.

Patrick has extensive Trial Work experience at both the Federal and State Court level. He has prevailed in numerous successful Consumer Fraud class actions against large real estate companies, including Kushner Companies, and commercial landlords. He has successfully litigated and negotiated numerous New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD), Civil Rights, and Public Interest actions. Some examples include:

  • Significant settlement obtained on behalf of the rights of the disabled in the matter Estate of Tara O’Leary and Estate of Lydia Joy Perry v. State of New Jersey, et als, United States District Court of New Jersey, Case No.: 3:12-cv-2625;
  • Successful commercial litigation against large real estate companies and landlords, including the Kushner Companies, for Consumer Fraud Act violations;
  • Successful Civil Rights litigation against a variety of police and governmental entities, to protect the constitutional rights of citizens by targeting police misconduct and abuse, as well as discrimination and racism.

He has used his extensive litigation experience for the benefit of companies and organizations in defending them against complex actions involving all sorts of matters. His experience on the Plaintiff side allows him to understand the strategies and approaches that will best work for the defense.
